Here are answers to the FAQs:
1. Who can use REAP?REAP does not serve the general public. When your employer has a contract with REAP, you and your immediate family may directly contact REAP for confidential services at no cost. Eligibility for telephone consultations or personal visits is usually for the covered employee and household members. Employees may also contact REAP for ideas, strategies, and resources to help their extended family members not in the household. For concerns with minor children, REAP staff always begin with an initial parent consultation visit.
2. What kinds of concerns does REAP help with?REAP counselors help with a wide variety of issues. The counselor will help you develop solutions through brief counseling, information, and referrals to community and professional resources for concerns with:
- Stress (at Work or Personal)
- Anxiety or Depression
- Marital and Relationship Problems
- Child and Family changes and issues
- Child or Elder Care resources
- Alcohol or other Drug Abuse
- Grief and Loss
- Personal Budget/Finances
- Limited Referrals for Legal Information
3. Is there a cost for REAP?
There is no cost to you for telephone consultations, or a brief number of face-to-face visits with a REAP counselor. If you are referred to specialists, the REAP staff will work with you to identify resources that are as cost-effective as possible and may be
covered under your health insurance.
4. How do I seek help through REAP?All requests for REAP services or appointments begin with a call to the main office at (919) 872-4786 or toll free at 1-800-554-1399. Office hours are 9am-5:30pm Monday-Thursdays and 9am-4:30pm Friday (Eastern Standard Time). You can call 24 hours/7days per week for emergencies. When you first call REAP, you will be asked to identify which sponsoring employer makes you eligible for REAP services.
5. Where is the REAP office located?REAP is in North Raleigh, near the intersection of Falls of Neuse and Spring Forest Roads. It is accessible by the city bus, is handicap accessible, and has plenty of free off-street parking. Please see Contact Us for directions. Some employers have contracts which include use of affiliate counselors for other geographic locations nearer to you. When you identify your employer and location, REAP staff will arrange for services as appropriate.
6. Is REAP always confidential?Usually, you may directly contact REAP without informing anyone at your workplace. REAP staff will keep your request for services and personal information confidential in compliance with state and federal laws and professional standards. You may call and personally discuss any questions you have about confidentiality prior to setting an initial appointment. Your contacts will remain totally confidential unless you explicitly approve the exchange of information, usually in writing. Exceptions to this include situations where REAP becomes concerned about a serious threat of harm to self or others, the abuse or neglect of children or the elderly, or if there is a specific court order. If you were referred for job performance reasons by your employer, your REAP counselor will fully discuss issues regarding the limited exchange of information.
7. Are there some services REAP cannot provide? There are a variety of services that REAP is not able to provide directly, but we can help you with a referral to appropriate resources.
Examples include:
- medications
- long term counseling by direct pay or insurance
- DWI / DUI assessment or in-depth substance abuse treatment
- psychological evaluations or testing (i.e., ADHD)

When you do have needs in these areas, please Contact Us. We can assist you with referrals to high quality local professionals, providers, community resources, and programs that may be covered in part under your health insurance.
